He was named Musician of the Year by Estonian Public Broadcasting, led the Estonian National Orchestra in Pärnu on his birthday and in the capital city Tallinn January 1 in a special New Year’s concert webcast live to the world. He is music director of the Orchestre de Paris and the Frankfurt Radio Orchestra, artistic director of the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen (German Chamber Orchestra) and come 2015, he will be chief conductor of the NHK Symphony Orchestra in Tokyo.
Järvi returns to Cincinnati this month to conduct for the first time since May, 2011. Concerts are 7:30 p.m. Jan. 10 and 8 p.m. Jan. 12 at Music Hall. In addition, Järvi will lead the CSO in a community concert at Hamilton High School Jan. 11.
