Paavo Järvi The Complete Erato Recordings (Erato)
Liberation, Éric Dahan, 6 December 2024
Like his father Neeme, the Estonian Paavo Järvi is a strong, hard-hitting conductor and a tireless pioneer. After NCA's 16 CDs documenting his successful tenure in Cincinnati, Ohio, it's Erato's turn to recall, on 31 CDs, his excellence in Sibelius's Kullervo, with the Stockholm Philharmonic, as well as in Dutilleux's Métaboles, with the Orchestre de Paris. This top-flight boxed set also includes Arvo Pärt's first three symphonies, rare cantatas by Shostakovich, a galvanising reading of Britten's Piano Concerto with Leif-Ove Andsnes, and previously unreleased bonus tracks of Dukas, Franck and Roussel, full of panache that will delight novices and experienced music lovers alike.
