Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of Shostakovich's Birth

CSO Weekend: November 3-4, 2006
The CSO celebrates the centennial of Shostakovich's birth with performances of the composer's Leningrad Symphony No. 7, which echoes the emotions of that city's people shortly after Germany's 1941 invasion of Russia. Celebrated violinist Dmitry Sitkovetsky joins the CSO to perform Prokofiev's multi-faceted Violin Concerto No. 2. And Leonard Bernstein's Slava! A Political Overture for Orchestra (dedicated to the great cellist Rostropovich) opens the concerts.
