The conductor was recognized for his part in developing Estonian-French relations during the 2011 Estonian culture festival "Estonie tonique."
Järvi has served as the chief conductor and musical director of the Orchestre de Paris since 2010.
He is the latest to be recognized by the French government for "Estonie tonique." Others have included composer Helena Tulve, Vox Clamantis art director Jaan-Eik Tulve, filmmaker Ilmar Raag and producer Lembit Peterson.

Estonian conductor Paavo Järvi has been awarded the French cultural title Commandeur de l´Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.
Järvi received the award in Paris yesterday from the French minister of culture, Aurélie Filippetti.The conductor was recognized for his part in developing Estonian-French relations during the 2011 Estonian culture festival "Estonie tonique."
