Gramophone Editor's Choice

The October issue of Gramophone magazine is out and one of the picks for Editor's Choice of newly released CDs is Paavo and the Cincinnati Symphony's Dvorák Symphony No. 9/Martinu Symphony No 2:

The unique coupling is just one of many points in this disc's favour

Dvorák Symphony No 9, 'From the New World', B178 Op. 95/Martinu Symphony No 2, H295.
Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra/Paavo Järvi
Telarc New CD CD80616 (68 minutes : DDD)

An intriguing and successful coupling of the very familiar and the less well known. The Dvovák New World is one of classical music's all-time favourites; but the Martinu Second, premiered in Telarc's home town of Cleveland in 1943, is well worth getting to know - especially in such stunning sound.
